Research expanded across

  • Waymo comparison, using paid autonomous miles as the benchmark
  • Cybercab manufacturing and deployment
  • Optimus internal deployment
  • Chinese humanoid competition
  • Energy-storage margin durability
  • Hardware 3 obligations
  • Segment-specific TAM methodologies

Research implications

Waymo provides observed commercial-autonomy benchmarks. There is now a real operator with real paid miles, so Tesla's autonomy case can be measured against something rather than argued in the abstract.

Tesla's potential advantage is lower hardware cost and scalable deployment — but only if technical and regulatory thresholds are met. The advantage is conditional, not present.

Robotaxi and Optimus valuation must be based on unit economics and useful commercial deployment, not headline TAM. A total-addressable- market figure is not evidence of anything; it is the size of the room.

Compute should receive standalone value only when external monetisation is demonstrated. Until then it is an enabling asset whose value belongs to the segments it enables.

Hardware 3 retrofit or remedy obligations require a contingent-liability treatment. This is a cost that does not appear until it does.

Energy valuation must reflect both deployment growth and margin compression. Deployments rose while energy gross profit declined — growth and profitability moved in opposite directions in the same quarter, and a model that tracks only the first will misprice the segment.

Standing constraint

Any non-filing operating statistic must be independently verified before becoming a hard model input.
